Our History

The building on the corner of Gregorygasse with the Friederika Hall on Breitenfurterstraße was built in 1895 by the Kubetz family. The Franz Kubetz Inn and the Friederika Hall served as a venue for dancing, entertainment, and various festivities.

The inn also functioned as a tavern for vegetable farmers who had to pay taxes on their goods at the city gate before entering Vienna. On their way back, the farmers would stop at the courtyard with their horse-drawn carts to feed their animals with hay and have a drink or two themselves.

Over time, until 1938, the building changed ownership several times and housed, among other things, a margarine production company. After 1945, a German feed company (Chemocidan) took over the building as a tenant and installed mixing equipment on massive concrete foundations in the hall, where animal feed for all of Austria was processed and packaged.

In the early 1980s, the heir of these buildings, Mr. Vogel from Amstetten, leased the property to the Hannak family, who used it as a tire warehouse. At the end of the 1980s, Hannak acquired the buildings and began a comprehensive renovation in 2012 to restore their original purpose.

After completion in 2015, all the necessary permits were obtained, and since June 2022, the building has been leased to the Kumar family. Since then, they have successfully served their guests with culinary delights and offered catering and events.

History of Kumar's Kitchen :

Kumar’s Kitchen, operated by the Kumar family, is a true success story in Vienna, Austria. The vision of bringing the rich and diverse flavors of India to Vienna was realized by the passionate chefs of the Kumar family, who sought to introduce the best of Indian cuisine to the Austrian capital.

Kumar’s Kitchen – Hari Aum GmbH was founded on November 8, 2020. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the restaurant had to fully switch to delivery services. In 2022, after the pandemic subsided, the search began for a fine-dining restaurant that could do justice to the exceptional dishes. During this search, the team discovered the magnificent Palais-Restaurant in Liesing.

A new journey began in June 2022 in a historic building in Liesing, over 100 years old. This architectural gem was carefully restored to preserve the grandeur of bygone times, while simultaneously offering a modern and elegant setting for an extraordinary culinary experience. The majestic interior design creates an atmosphere that is both luxurious and inviting.

Kumar’s Kitchen is not only known for its outstanding cuisine but also for its special ambiance. Soft background music and regular live music performances ensure that every visit becomes an unforgettable experience. Guests can lose themselves in a world of exquisite spices and authentic flavors, masterfully prepared by talented chefs.

Mr. Vijay KUMAR was employed by our company, DO & CO Gourmet Kitchen Hot GmbH, A-1110 Vienna, Dampfmühlgasse 5, from November 26, 2007 to October 25, 2022.

As a chef, Mr. Kumar was responsible for managing the Indian kitchen with a team of up to 8 employees. He was responsible for coordinating all preparatory work in the kitchen as well as preparing all dishes and serving them for our airline customers. He ensured that all dishes were prepared according to traditional Indian recipes and our company’s high quality standards. Mr. Kumar contributed significantly in creating an authentic dining experience and ensuring our guests’ satisfaction.

In addition, his extensive area of responsibility also included:

  • Compliance with hygiene guidelines, documentation
  • Support with presentations for our airline customers
  • Organizational and administrative matters, creation of duty rosters, vacation planning
  • Management, assessment and training of employees
  • Attending meetings
  • Support in other areas of the kitchen, working closely with our chefs
    He was also involved in catering for numerous national and international events, for example as part of our catering contract for the annual Hahnenkamm races Kitzbühel, catering for the global Formula 1 Grands Prix; including Abu Dhabi, the USA, Mexico, Shanghai, Monza, New Delhi, Spielberg, Budapest, Bahrain, Spa and Great Britain. He also catered the annual UEFA Champions League finals in Madrid 2019, Cardiff 2017, Paris 2016, Berlin 2015 and London 2013, the ATP Madrid Open, FK Austria games at the Generali Arena, the Beach Volleyball Grand Slam 2014 and 2015, the RIDERS show jumping tournament, the CHIO Aachen and the catering order for the European Football Championships in 2008 and 2016.
